How We Review

Updated October 23, 2026 · This page describes our method in the open — it changes only when the method does.

The short version

We are a desk-research publication. We do not claim to have lab-tested every product, and any site that claims it tested forty shower caddies for a single article is usually not telling you the truth. What we do is slower and, we think, more useful: we study manufacturer specifications, mounting-system engineering, surface-compatibility documentation, and large bodies of verified owner reports, and we cross-check them against the physics of the method — what adhesive can hold on glazed tile, what tension can brace, what a hollow-core door can carry.

How a pick earns its place

  1. The no-drill test. It must install without drilling, screws into the building, or permanent bonding. Borderline cases are labelled, not hidden.
  2. The load-honesty test. We compare the pack's stated rating with what owners consistently report, and we tell you the realistic working load, not the marketing number.
  3. The removal test. There must be a documented, clean removal path. If owners report shredded paint or permanent residue as a pattern, the product is demoted or excluded — and we say why.
  4. The renter-context test. Lease rules, deposit risk, surface types and move-out effort all count. A great product for a homeowner can be a bad product for a renter.

How we make money

DrillFree Nest is reader-supported. Some links are Amazon affiliate links: if you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Brands cannot pay to be featured, to be ranked higher, or to have a downside removed. Picks change when the evidence changes; a dated changelog note is added to any guide whose picks change.

Corrections

If we get something wrong — a spec, a surface rule, a removal step — tell us via the contact page and we will fix it and note the fix. Renters' deposits ride on this advice; we treat that seriously.
